Churches in Horringer Parish

Horringer Church, St Leonards

St Leonard's Church The Street Horringer Bury St Edmunds

Welcome!

We are the ancient parish church for Horringer-cum-Ickworth.  St Leonard's has been a sacred place for a thousand years, as demonstrated by its listing in the Domesday Book of 1086.  Today, we are part of the Horringer Benefice, which also encompasses the churches of St Andrew's Brockley, St Mary's Westley and St Petronilla's Whepstead.

As a village church, we aim to cater for all in our worship, which is a mix of the traditional and modern, quiet and all-age.  We believe that our faith is best lived out in practice through our commitment to baptism and eucharist, to prayer and contemplation, to caring for others and for the natural world, and seeking to transform unjust structures.

Whether you wish to worship with us, or simply come into the church building for some peace and quiet or to look around, we welcome you.

Sunday worship

The heart of our church life is our Sunday worship. Most Sundays we have a service at 11.15am. Check our News & Notices page for details of upcoming services.

Weekday prayers

Morning Prayer is said on 'Zoom' every Thursday at 9.30am. Please contact Craig Young, our Lay Reader for details.

Community Events

Our Rector Max, and Family and Community Minister Helen, work closely with Ickworth Park Community Primary school. We also organise regular events  for the community. Over the past year, we have hosted a Crib exhibition, Horringer Hearts, a project to encourage love and sharing in our community, and the WOW (World of Wonder) project which had a more environmental twist. Now we are about to embark on the Trees@Christmas festival - check our News & Notices page for more details of this.

Our pastoral team has a ministry of visiting the sick and housebound.  We are also involved in Churches Together, are keen supporters of Christian Aid internationally and Christians Against Poverty in the UK.

The bells of St Leonard's

Our new set of eight bells were dedicated by The Rt Revd Martin Seeley, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, on Sunday 19th March 2017 at a special service of choral evensong.  If you would like to learn more about the bells or to become a bell-ringer, please contact the tower captain, Sally Crouch: 01284 735338
